Susie Miller is a floral designer, landscaper, wedding coordinator, and private event coordinator. Her talents have been admired for more than two decades at Houston Country Club, where she has worked both in landscaping and as the supervisor of the floral department. Since 2009, she has been an honorary member of the River Oaks Garden Club, where she volunteers her services for the Azalea Trail. Beauty is to the spirit what food is to the flesh.—Frederick Buechner
For centuries, the Church has engaged in the interplay between beauty, goodness, and truth. Since the Enlightenment, however, the pursuit of beauty has been largely trivialized by the Church while reason has been elevated. Our minds have been challenged while our spirits and souls have withered.
In this class, Joy Hilley examines the role of beauty in scripture and how it has intersected with faith and art throughout Church history. She exhorts those who love God to develop holy imaginations that allow them to see the beauty of God and renew their spirits and souls. She describes her process of creating art that is infused by the Spirit—art that helps interpret, describe, and illustrate the mysteries of God.
Class participants will be given an opportunity to create their own piece of art as a spiritual exercise, an act of personal devotion. No art skill or experience is necessary and art materials are provided.
The course is hosted by the Emmaus Spirituality Center in Houston. Registration is open via this link.

The Power of Blessing: Calling Forth Wholeness
Houston Prayer Warriors Retreat with Joy Hilley
Course Overview
A great mystery of the faith is how God could merely speak and bring forth the universe. From that dramatic example of speech bringing life, we who are created in the image of God are called to wrestle with the weightiness and consequence of our speech. Life or death. Good or evil. Creation or destruction. The power of life and death are in the tongue, as the proverb instructs.
In this teaching, Joy Hilley will examine the scriptural foundation for speaking blessings over oneself and others. She will discuss how to partner with the Holy Spirit to call forth wholeness and healing—to bring the Kingdom of heaven to earth. In addition to the teaching, she will give ample time for practicing these truths with one another.
Class participants will have time for personal reflection, prayer, and worship. Participants also will be given an opportunity to create their own piece of art as a spiritual exercise, an act of personal devotion. No art skill or experience is necessary and art materials are provided.
The course is open to women. It will be held at Holy Name Retreat Center in Houston. For registration details, email Hello (at) JoyHilley.com
